Hard drive disassembly

Want to take a hard drive apart and put it back together again? Want to take the data from a broken hard drive and put it into a working hard drive?

Don’t.

This video shows how an independent repair shop does it properly. A great look at the inside of a working disc. You can see the two platters, the read heads on the arm. At the end he’s reading the disc (spoiler alert) successfully and you can see that he’s reading it by blocks and sectors, that’s how the data is organised.

GCSE knowledge to get out of this: hard drives are magnetic storage where spinning platters are read by heads.
